Artist’s Biography
As an artist, Sue Jarvis records contemporary life, culture, social issues and the evolving landscape. Stylistically her paintings focus on shape, colour and contrasting light.
Her genre subjects are inspired by past silver gelatin photography, and today’s print and broadcast media.
Sue has won and been a finalist in many Australia wide painting prizes, including the Gallipoli Prize, Sydney April 2024. Private and Civic collections such as the State Library of Victoria and the Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne include her work.
Dandenong, the hometown of her birth (1949) has become a vibrant, multicultural City, an inspiration for many of her works, as has the Cardinia Shire where she now lives, recording for example the recovering landscape after fire.
Sue is a prize-winning member of the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors (MSWPS)
Artworks & Gallery Garden
My artworks and photography complement the rare 10-acre botanic garden bordering the Cockatoo Creek at Gembrook in Victoria, Australia. The garden provides a sacredness to nature, an abundance of colour, textures & sounds, making it the perfect backdrop for intimate weddings, picnics and events.
Since 2018, the gardens and gallery have been available to hire for intimate boutique weddings up to 50 people or for wedding photography. Colour is a feature, especially in Spring & Autumn, and the wildlife corridor is a haven for birds.

Sue and her subject, Gülşen Özer, are fellow creative facilitators and friends. Both work in socially engaged practice, Sue as a painter.
The painting represents the strength and confidence in the purpose of the subject and her empathy for and with movement in the creative arts. The continuous central black s-curve within the painting leads to the face, and the individuals in the painting's background connect to Gülşen’s community practice.
Gülşen is a professional performance artist with diverse indigenous Australian and non-indigenous roots.
